OLCV's Election Analysis

A great start to the 2008 Elections!

Environmental voters were highly engaged in this year's primary election with voter turnout higher than ever.

There are likely several reasons for this, but you can be sure one reason is that we had more strong pro-environment leaders to vote for than ever before.

Another reason was that OLCV was active in several hotly contested races in the May primary. We worked overtime to recruit volunteers to talk to as many voters as possible about the best pro-environment candidates in their districts. As a result, we helped OLCV endorsed candidates win their elections in three legislative primaries and head into run-offs with a lead in three local government primaries.

Check out our election analysis on our blog, OLCV Talk.

Max is ready to get to work!

Watchdog 7
Max was recently voted the new face of OLCV's watchdog work!

So we got 'em elected. Now what?

Several races were decided in the May Primary. So now that they're elected, we need to make sure these elected officials do what they promised they'd do.

Watchdogging (monitoring your elected officials and how they're voting on the environmental issues so you know the score) is one of the things OLCV is best known for and one of the best ways for you to ensure your elected officials act responsibly to protect our environment after they're elected.

What can you do?

First, keep track of what's going on, sign up for OLCV's e-bulletin, a twice per month email newsletter on Oregon environmental politics.

Want to do more? Get involved with OLCV's county chapter program, which works to hold city, county, and legislative officials accountable.

Overheard...

Obviously, I have a lot of passion for the issues and candidates -- enough to quit my well paying job for a more satisfying, though sometimes stressful job working to protect the state I love.
