On Monday, the Oregon League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (OLCV's sister organization) kicked off its Summer Conversation Series with the first of its statewide events. Monday's event took place in Clackamas County at Rose Villa (a retirement community) and was attended by state Sen. Martha Schrader. The topic of the event was growing our economy and creating jobs here in Oregon and centered around the energy industry.

Earlier this week, a coalition of farmers and conservation groups released a map to show the areas they want to see protected as part of the current Urban and Rural Reserve designation process being undertaken by Metro and the region's County Governments.

In the future, when you drive into Lake Oswego you may see a sign that reads "Welcome to a Green Power Community. We exceed EPA guidelines for buying clean, renewable energy."

The EPA announced that it is recognizing Lake Oswego as one of its Green Power Communities. Residents and businesses are helping to take the equivalent of 4,500 cars off the road through their purchases of renewable energy.

Land use gets a lot of recent  ink in local papers

It ain’t over till the fat lady sings is a phrase we all know well and like the phrase the Urban and Rural reserve planning process continues. The hotbed of activity for these discussions remains the farmland north of Hillsboro in Washington County, as well as the Stafford area in Clackamas County--which has been in the news lately.
