At this year's OLCV Annual Celebration dinner, we debuted a video featuring several Oregon business leaders, conservationists, and elected officials as they look back at the 2010 Gulf Coast oil spill. They go on to talk about the critical work that OLCV does to protect Oregon's environment and create jobs at the same time.

In case you missed it, a great piece ran in the Sunday Oregonian this week about "Cool Schools." We first heard about the Cool Schools concept last year, as a key part of now Governor John Kitzhaber's plan to create new jobs for Oregonians.

Yesterday, the national League of Conservation Voters released a special edition Scorecard scoring your elected leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives on environmental, public health, and energy votes taken on amendments to the “Continuing Resolution” – the spending bill -- that just passed in the House.

As summer is upon us, the Oregon Conservation Network, Oregon’s Largest Environmental Coalition, is in the process of choosing its “Priorities for a Healthy Oregon” for the 2011 session. As we make these decisions, we are all very aware of the tough choices Oregon is facing, and looking for innovative solutions to help the State meet its budget challenges and protect Oregon’s environment.

Who we elect matters

Check out this great video, created by our friends at Compass Media, highlighting Oregon's environmental champions and the incredible environmental safeguards they have helped to secure that help preserve Oregon's unique quality of life. This video was unveiled at OLCV's 13th Annual Dinner for the Environment on April 23, 2010. More than 1,100 guests attended.

An ad against soda taxes is bad enough, but check out the plastic bag consumption.

If you are anything like me (an obsessive compulsive re-user/recycler), watching TV can be difficult. Any show that features someone with writer’s block invariably includes a scene involving the actor wadding up a piece of paper (who types anymore?) and throwing it away in the garbage can.  And then there are the reality shows, where you realize the rest of the country really doesn’t get it.

During my morning news review I stumbled upon a post on PDX Green laying out 10 good reasons not to impose a fee on shoppers for disposable shopping bags.

Thanks for the great work Shelby!

Alison Wiley created and writes for the blog The Diamond-Cut Life in order to create awareness about the need to reduce "our consumption down to the core of happiness."

Alison's message? More joy, less consumption. That's definitely a message that OLCV agrees with.
