OLCV e-bulletin: Trick or treat! How you can help get out the vote with only five days left
Don't get mad, get out the vote
If you watch TV, you've likely seen some of the sleazy political ads airing this year. If you don't watch TV, you've likely heard about them. These ads discourage some voters from voting and irritate and anger the rest of us.
If these ads irritate you, don't get mad, help get out the vote.
There is less than one week left to reach out to thousands of new voters in order to make sure they cast informed votes down the whole ballot.
Sign up now to help get out the vote in key districts and talk to voters about the candidates that deserve their support.
10 hours to call 10,000 voters
This Sunday, November 2nd, we will be hosting an ALL DAY phone bank party at OLCV's headquarters (320 SW Stark, Ste 530). Grab your cell phone and join us anytime between 11 AM and 9 PM to call for a couple hours.
We promise you'll have some fun and make an impact on this year's election. Festivities will include food and drink (beer and soda). We hope to call 10,000 voters so bring your friends!
Remember, five days is all we have in this historic election year.
Let's make sure we can look back at this final week before November 4th and say we did everything we could to ensure the pro-enironment candidates we support won. Sign up for Sunday.
"Don't stop at the top...Give Barack Obama the team he needs for the change we need."
Watch the League of Conservation Voters TV ad for Jeff Merkley.
Thank you for caring about Oregon's legacy
In these last five days, we urgently need you to join us in keeping up the energy through till election day.
Please take a moment now to invest in OLCV with a contribution to our PAC. Even if you can spare just a few dollars -- trust me, we can use every dime we get up and until November 4.
Sign up to volunteer for a few hours on behalf of a local candidate.
And then celebrate with us on November 4!! And know that we appreciate all that you do.
Here's a list of last minute items you may find useful if you haven't already voted:
- OLCV's endorsements
- OLCV's recommendations on how to vote on Statwide Ballot Measures
- If you can't get your ballot in the mail by Oct.31, you'll need to take it to a ballot drop off location. Find a ballot drop off location near you.
Elect Ben Westlund for State Treasurer
One of the races getting less attention this year is the race for State Treasurer. OLCV supports Senator Ben Westlund. In the 2007 session, Westlund earned a 100% rating on OLCV’s Legislative Scorecard. In 2005, he earned our Consensus Builder of the Year award.
Westlund’s television (and non-television) campaign focuses on his plans to use the state’s financial capacity to promote renewable energy jobs across the state. Check out his ad and be sure to tell your friends and neighbors to vote for Ben.
Westlund isn’t the only one running on a green energy platform, of course. Here are some more examples.
Last week, I experienced some technical difficulties with my email. If you know the answer to our October Trivia Question below, please send in your response.
Question: September 29th was the deadline for supporters of Oregon marine reserves to turn in their proposals to the state. There was only one proposed reserve site initiated by commercial fishermen, the people who would be most directly affected by a marine reserve designation, in a prime fishing area. Where is it?

We need proactive leaders that we can depend on to protect the health of our environment and that of Oregonians.
