The ELC Brings Leaders Together for Oregon

Oregon is blessed with diverse natural beauty, and we have often been on the forefront of key environmental debates that have had consequences far outside our state’s border. But the vision that earned our state its reputation as an environmental leader began eroding many years ago.

More recently, we have seen a rebound of interest in protecting our natural legacy.  In the 2008 and 2006 elections, OLCV helped many pro-environment candidates win victories across the state.  As a result, the 2009 and 2007 Oregon Legislatures passed important environmental laws, including the nation’s most aggressive Renewable Energy Standard, the first legislatively adopted low-carbon fuel standard, and special protection for the Metolius River basin.

But the 2009 session also saw setbacks on clean energy policy at a time when Oregon needs to do more to spur local, green jobs and increase our state’s energy independence.  At the same time, many environmental problems are worsening, and we need innovative solutions. OLCV’s Environmental Leadership Circle brings leaders together to seek these solutions.
